Engineering Manager, Application Security

We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.</p></div><p><strong>What You'll Be Doing</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead a team of security engineers who will build and implement application security tools and services, perform secure design reviews and threat modeling, and provide guidance on secure development at Discord.</li> <li>Secure our code and development process from IDE to production.</li> <li>Scale detection and remediation of security vulnerabilities..</li> <li>Work with other Discord teams to limit security exposure to our users, while also shaking out security bugs before they enter production.</li> <li>Partner with Discord's product engineering and product management teams to champion new security features for our users.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What you should have</strong></p> <ul> <li>You have 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager and have managed a team of 3+ Security Engineers.</li> <li>You have experience programming in at least one general purpose programming language (e.g. Python, Rust, Go).</li> <li>You have development-with-AI experience and a good grasp of AI Security practices.</li> <li>You have experience leading multiple security projects with a cross-functional group.</li> <li>You have experience with tools used to automate vulnerability discovery and remediation.</li> <li>You have experience operating in cloud-based environments (we use Google Cloud, but experience with other platforms is ok too).</li> <li>You are comfortable writing the roadmap - not just following one.</li> <li>You are an expert at reasoning about the security of complex systems, even if they contain components you aren't familiar with.</li> <li>Experienced with Threat Modeling and analyzing complex designs.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Bonus Points</strong></p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of modern and frequently used cryptographic primitives.</li> <li>You have experience with container orchestration technologies (e.g. Kubernetes).</li> <li>Experience with Linux system administration.</li> <li>You have experience leading multiple security projects with a cross-functional group.</li> <li>Familiar with common application vulnerabilities on the platforms Discord ships on (that's all of them).</li> </ul> <p><em>&nbsp;</em></p> <p><em>Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available.</em><em>The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000 to $279,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
